Welcome to my practice. I am glad that you have taken a step towards changing and healing your life and relationships. I have been in practice for 30 years, and provide therapy to individuals, couples and families using an integrative approach. Underlying my approach are the strong foundations of my training in Family Systems Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Psychodrama, Feminist Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Solutions Focused Therapy, and Trauma Therapy. The work of Terrence Real and Relational Life Therapy™ has most significantly influenced my clinical practice.
The focus of therapy is empowerment through insights and new skills, carried out in a respectful and encouraging environment, so that clients can bring their best self to their life and relationships. I guide people through a process of being able to speak truthfully about their painful and complicated life stories, including family of origin trauma, affairs, addictions, sexuality concerns, boundary and self-esteem issues. Using a variety of techniques, I help clients to understand the unhealthy dynamics that keep them stuck: control, unbridled expression, withdrawal, retaliation and being right. I motivate clients to move forward in more mature ways: showing respect, cherishing, listening and speaking with love, asking for what they need and giving what they can. Clients learn how to build a happier life and healthier relationships.
As a specialty, I also provide “Couples Intensives” in a series of 2-6, two hour couple’s sessions, with my colleague, Gail Winemaker, MA, RP. She is an Adlerian Therapist, with a specialty in The Addictions Model, Art Therapy, Relational Life Therapy, and facilitating problem-solving and conflict resolution. We help couples to make their relationship the best it can be… all the way to those who cannot decide, “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” Together, we get to the heart of the matter quickly and don’t miss a beat. Couples learn to make decisions about how to move their relationship forward or, when necessary, to end their relationship.
