Yoga Therapy for Better Sleep
March 26th – May 7th
When I was awake in the middle of the night feeding my newborn, I thought “this isn’t so bad”. But years later, when my kids were sleeping through the night and I wasn’t, I realized I needed to do something. Or more accurately, I needed to stop “doing” all the time.
When we are constantly busy, anxious, or stressed our sympathetic nervous system, our “fight or flight” system, is activated for long periods. When this happens, our parasympathetic nervous system, our “rest and digest” system is underused and the vagus nerve which modulates this system is said to lack tone.
The good news is that the parasympathetic nervous system is something we can access and strengthen. We can build vagal tone.
During this seven week session we’ll learn about the nervous system and its important role in sleep. We’ll reflect on our habits and will engage in practices to rebalance the nervous system.
Dr. Kim Callaghan, Naturopathic Doctor, will join us during week 2 for a naturopathic perspective on sleep challenges.
